Desa Payangan, with its wild green jungles, steep green rice terraces, and orderly green plantations is in stark contrast to the Batur Caldera, which bears the scars of ancient black lava flows, generations of volcanic eruptions and the skeletons of village buildings abandoned during ash falls.

Expedition Bali Four-Wheel Drive Tours    ∇    Bali's Premier Off-Road Tour Company

Start the day with a guided quad bike (ATV) ride or a Bali buggy drive through different types of Balinese terrain.
Explore rice fields, plantations, jungles, mud tracks, and two traditional villages on the way to Kintamani.  Choose to drive yourself or ride as a passenger with someone in your group or one of our guides. The photo opportunities are magnificent.

Take a short rest on the way through the Batur Caldera, one of Bali’s most famous landscapes. Have a look at the small farms, growing all manner of fresh produce, scattered throughout the caldera on every patch of available land.

Much of the region is protected with UNESCO Geopark status, so the best way to explore the caldera and its unique volcanic terrain is to take a four-wheel drive tour with Expedition Bali.

The four-wheel drive tour begins at the Expedition Bali Adventure Camp. Climb aboard one of our custom-built, four-wheel drive vehicles and get to know your four-wheel drive specialist. Your guide is a certified member of the Mount Batur Guide Association, so expect great stories about the history of the region, interesting information about the features of the landscape, all with a great sense of humour. You are in safe hands on this off-road adventure.

Hop out of the Expedition Bali vehicle at Lava Ball Point and feel the incredible Kintamani landscape surround you. You will find a large cave formed from a lava flow and you will wonder if you are on a different planet. Ask your guide why this is called a holy cave?

Are you ready for the frozen lava tour?  The four-wheel drive vehicles pack a lot of power once you hit the trail.  You’ll discover what the vehicle can do as you crawl over the rugged terrain, known as the road of no return.

Take photographs of this wild ride to have your friends back home envious of your Expedition Bali volcano adventure.  Do it all with the only licensed four-wheel drive adventure tour operator in the Kintamani region.

The second four-wheel drive stop is the volcanic lava flow of 1964. How did this happen? Your tour guide has the answer. You will be surrounded by world famous black Lava formations and will witness the extraordinary view of an active volcano in the distance. Incredible photo opportunities await.

As the guide navigates the four-wheel drive vehicle through the lava fields to get to the 1864 lava flow, you will witness the local farmers working on their small fields and vegetable gardens. Marvel at the small spaces the Balinese farmers tend for growing crops on.

To complete your day, stop for an a la carte lunch and a long soak in the healing waters of Batur Natural Hot Spring. Enjoy the photographic panorama of beautiful Lake Batur from a completely different angle.
